Mr.Arvind Kumar Chalasani


Mr.Arvind Kumar Chalasani is a post graduate in Environmental Chemistry and an M.Phil in Energy and Environment from Devi Ahilya University in Indore. He did his B.Ed from IGNOU, New Delhi


Previously, he worked at The Doon School, Dehradun, as Master Incharge, Environmental Sciences for 12 years. He taught Environmental Sciences and Environmental Education for ISC and ICSE curricula and Environmental Systems for IB curriculum. He was also the CAS co-ordinator for the Doon School since the beginning of the IB programme in Doon. He was also the Housemaster for one of the main boarding houses, 'TATA house'.


Apart from teaching in India, he also taught at the Millfield School, England for a short while.


He is actively involved with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations and is the chief resource person for Environmental Sciences, Environmental Education and Environmental Applications. He has also been the chief examiner for Environmental Sciences and Environmental Education for the past many years. Over the years, he has trained several teachers for teaching environmental sciences/education in Dehradun, Calcutta and Delhi for the Council and also in Muscat, for schools with CBSE curriculum.


Mr. Chalasani has visited various schools in the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany and Middle East, as the exchange co-ordinator at the Doon School. He was actively involved in arranging student and teacher exchanges at the Doon School.


He is actively involved in Tiger Conservation and was the Coordinator for the Uttaranchal region for ‘Sanctuary - Kids for Tigers’ for many years. He is also associated with several NGOs for wildlife conservation and social upliftment.


He was awarded the prestigious Green Teacher of the year award in 2004 by ABN AMRO Bank and Sanctuary Asia for his role in promoting awareness in school children for saving the Indian tiger.


He is actively involved in social and community service and is the project coordinator for Round Square International Conference in India, an international schools organization with 75 reputed schools across the globe. He has successfully led more than 17 international and regional service projects in India and Scotland working closely with the Leprosy Mission trust of India, Navdanya, Murton wildlife trust, Tibetan monastries in Ladakh and also for Tsunami & earthquake relief, self sustenance and in promoting education for the underprivileged.


He was the elected the Secretary for the South Asia and Gulf region for the Round Square international organization.


He is also an avid trekker and was part of the trekking expedition to Dhumdarkandi pass in the Himalayas in 2007 which is at an altitude of 19000 feet. He also trekked in the Leh and Ladakh regions of the Himalayas.


He was part of the Indian Council for Forestry Research’s panel for making forestry a part of the curriculum in Indian schools and also part of the citizen’s forum for preparing a master plan for Dehradun.


Mr Chalasani took over as the IIS, Hyderabad as the Principal on 15th May, 2010.
