IB Primary Years Programme
Welcome to the Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Indus International School, Hyderabad!
At Indus, we advocate lifelong learning, and a global outlook on life. Our students come from diverse cultures, backgrounds and experiences, and may bring varied beliefs and expectations to school. We are sensitive to this, and strive to meet the needs and expectations of every student.
What is the Primary Years Programme (PYP)?
The PYP is one of 3 programmes offered by the International Baccalaureate and is designed for students aged 3 to 12 years. It focuses on the all-round growth of a growing child, touching its heart as well as mind, and encompassing social; physical; emotional and cultural needs along with academic development.
The PYP draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools, to create a relevant, engaging, challenging, and significant educational framework for children.
The PYP fits in perfectly with our school vision: "To prepare 21st century citizens, possessing a strong sense of community with an international perspective, citizens of the world, who think globally and act locally.” The curriculum is a balanced blend of 5 essential elements: concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes and action. The knowledge component is developed through inquiries into six trans-disciplinary themes of global significance: Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves and Sharing the Planet. This is supported and balanced by skills and knowledge from the 6 subject areas: Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, PSPE (Personal, Social and Physical Education) and the Arts, which foster the all-round development of the child.
